This album contains photos from trips outside Toronto, reflecting the under-sung loveliness that we find as we explore Ontario.

Note: As of Summer 2015, instead of creating albums on our blog we are speeding up the process for ourselves and simply linking to ‘Google Albums’

  • Houses - June 2009
Algonquin and Arrowhead Parks in Winter

The heart of winter, 2015 (Valentines and Family Day weekend); around 60 cm of snow and temperatures close to -30C; fresh powder, with blue skies and sunshine much of the time. Magic!

Essex County - Ontario

Labour Day Weekend 2013 - exploring the South West of Ontario, the southern most point of mainland Canada and the area in which Gina's great uncle Arthur farmed in the early twentieth century.

Summer Trip 2013

A road trip up through Gravenhurst and Rosseau in Muskoka, on to Killarney and then to Manitoulin Island, the largest freshwater island in the world. We stayed first at Two O'Clock, just outside Wikwemikong and then on Mudge Bay, round the bay from Kagawong. We returned to the mainland via the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry to Tobermorry.

The Beaver River & Nicolston Dam

An amazing 12 KM paddle down the Beaver River at the beginning of July 2013. The woodland and marsh felt almost primeval - definitely ancient and very wonderful. As a warm up the day before, we paddled above the Nicolstone Dam near Alliston.

Royal Botanical Gardens

Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton, May 19, 2013 - the gardens are spread over a number of plots. The rock garden was awash with the vibrant colours of tulips and the pastel pink of cherry blossom. The Arboretum led us on to a wonderful long hike.

Hills of the Headwaters

The Hills of the Headwaters roll across the landscape to the north of Toronto around Caledon. At only about an hour's drive from us, this is a lovely area for weekend wanderings. This collection includes a wondrous nature walk in late summer at Mono Cliffs, a winter trip to Alton Mill, an early summer stay in a wonderful farmhouse near Mono and a Thanksgiving day trip.

Midland Area

A lovely (if somewhat wet) weekend in August 2012 in the Midland area of Ontario

Our first two-week vacation in way too long; July 2012, between Parry Sound and Huntsville, 15 minutes or so from Orville just to the north of Muskoka. We stayed in a cabin in the wilds on a private lake, alternating chilling and gently exploring our immediate surroundings with day \'expeditions\' further afield.

Grey County

Kayaking and waterfalls in Grey County, Easter 2012. Glorious sunshine for much of the weekend gilded magical early Spring walking.

Cheltenham Badlands

Cheltenham Badlands is an example of Badlands formation in Caledon, ON. We took these photos during an unseasonably warm pre-Spring weekend on March 11, 2012. Toronto was ice-free, but just slightly north, we could not hike far as trails were still ice-bound, even in the high temperatures and glorious sunshine! We have also added a couple of winter shots taken February 2013.

Ottawa - Winter

Our \'bucket list\' trip to Ottawa for Winterlude 2012 to skate the Rideau and experience our first winter festival.

Photos from our first visit to our capital city in August 2011, during which we focussed on history and citizenship, with visits to the wonderful Museum of Civilization and Parliament Hill.

Rideau Lakes

Driving between Toronto and L'Outouais in August 2011, we relished our first glimpses of the Rideau Canal and Lakes. We returned to Kingston and the Westport area for Thanksgiving 2012.

Prince Edward County

From a magical visit to PEC for the maple syrup festival in Spring 2011.

Mountsberg, Ontario

Easter Weekend 2010, Mountsberg Conservation Area

Bruce Peninsular

Photos from our cottage vacation, August 2010

Lake Simcoe

Needing a break, we headed an hour or so north of Toronto for a real taste of Canadian winter (last weekend of February 2010)

Our first glimpses of Niagara Falls October 2009, then visits with guests in September and December 2011

Georgian Bay

With only a couple of stolen days, we barely touched the surface of what this lovely area has to offer. In contemplating city living, as a country girl it is important to know how easy it is to escape into the country - and what country!

Blue Mountain

Summer at Blue Mountain Ski Resort, Georgian Bay, just over 2 hours drive from Toronto. I didn't think I would like this, a modern, purpose built village but was agreeably surprised and impressed.

Avalon Clearview

We stayed at this beautiful B&B in Georgian Bay (around 2 hours easy drive from Toronto) for a long weekend. The surroundings are glorious, with nature's abundance on full display.
